Description
46 factory new Winchester 284 Winchester unprimed brass rifle shell cases, packaged from bulk.
BULK BRASS: Odd numbers of cartridge cases are the result of bulk bagging. Bulk brass is sold in barrels, generally by weight and it is not uncommon for odd number of pieces remain.
A brass case design with a rebated rim with a large diameter body that has a 35 degree shoulder was unique in 1963. The design enabled short action rifles to be chambered in 284 Winchester and obtain greater ballistics than before. The rebated rim allowed the use of standard bolt faces. The 284 Win was introduced in the Model 88 and 100 Winchester rifles. The rifles are no longer manufactured but the idea of this cartridge can be seen in Winchesters WSM and Remington Ultra Mag series. Modern powders and the popularity of long range shooting revived this round, the only draw back is the periodic production of brass. There really is not a steady source of the 284 Win once the supply of Winchester brass is sold out and forming brass from others can be a lengthy task since this cartridge is unique.
RELOADING PREPARATION:
Brass case mouths MAY not be perfectly round from the manufacturing process, this can be corrected by running brass through the size die (always recommended) prior to loading. Residue from the annealing process may leave a stain on the case neck that can be removed by tumbling. Annealing involves rapid heating then cooling to impart the shell cases with the proper hardness to securely hold bullets in place and provides flexibility to expand and contract through multiple firings handloaders expect.
