HISTORY: Army Ordnance Department called the new round the “5.56mm Ball Cartridge M193” that was originally developed for use in Armalite Model AR-15 and later uses in the U.S. M-16.  A few years later Remington released this cartridge to the civilian market bearing the name of .223 Remington.  Speer NO. 8 listed the sporting rifles chambered in .223 Remington as a AR-15, AR-180, Remington Model 760 and Model 700 and H&R Model 317.  A Modern list would be a large task to complete.
